Cured-in-place pipe lining pulls a resin-saturated felt or fiberglass tube into the existing lateral and cures it in place with heat, steam, or UV light. The result is a continuous jointless pipe inside the old one, which is why it is effective against root intrusion: roots enter at joints, and the liner eliminates them.
Lining slightly reduces internal diameter. On a four-inch residential lateral this rarely affects capacity, because the smooth new wall offsets the lost diameter with better flow.
